Kakar Transport Company runs daily, and the only, coaster service between Quetta and Ziarat. From Quetta, it runs from Spinny Road bus station which caters Ziarat bound vans (ask a rickshaw driver) while in Ziarat it can be found effortlessly in the main bazaar. On a typical day, the service operates twice - as they have two coasters - but this can be reduced to one due to the situation, or lack of travelers, especially in winters.
The other option is the small uncomfortable wagon which runs frequently between the two cities, depending upon how early it fills out.
In both the options, they make 4 people sit in one row, and 30 in the whole vehicle, which means you have to literally squeeze into it. Alternatively, we bought extra seats for the sake of some comfort. While traveling through this type of transport I prefer sitting in the middle section to make it less painful.
On the way, Quetta-Ziarat, up we could not find their Quetta office and ended up at the hi-ace wagon station where touts mislead us forcing us to take the uncomfortable van. So I hope this review will help others to avoid this unwanted situation.
Fare was PKR 140 (November 2012) which was quite reasonable for the 150 km, 2-1/2 hour, uphill ride. In order to ensure place in the coaster, reserving it via phone is advisable.
